Running for City Council (At Large)
Duluth, MN
Nov. 7, 2017

“Hi, I’m Janet Kennedy, a mother of two and a grandmother of nine. I am a life-long Duluthian that successfully utilized community services to get ahead and overcome as a single mother. My growing children and a growing responsibility to strive to become a productive citizen propelled me to seek opportunities to help me rise above the barriers I faced as an African American woman.

One of the things I have learned through church and my mother is to give back through community involvement. Over the years I have gained practical skills through volunteering and working with all different types of people. I have experience working with children, teens, adults, families, ex-offenders, and elderly, as well as people who are low income, homeless, chemically dependent, mentally and physically ill, or living with disability.

I have worked in the Physical Therapy field for 25 years. When I’m not busy volunteering with my church or spending time with my family, you can usually run into me biking or walking around the city.”

Kennedy is running on the following platform:

  • Health Equity
  • Social Justice & Human Rights
  • Community Resiliency & Sustainability
